Coventry additional HMO licensing applies city-wide to HMOs not subject to mandatory licensing, including three- or four-person HMOs and certain Section 257 HMOs.
Stage 1 is £716 on application. Stage 2 depends on the licence length: £855 for a standard one-year licence, £400 for a two-year licence, or £228 for a five-year licence; a five-year new application totals £944.
Properties exempt from this scheme
- HMOs that require mandatory HMO licensing are exempt from additional licensing.
- HMOs subject to an Interim or Final Management Order are exempt.
- HMOs subject to a Temporary Exemption Notice under section 62 are exempt while the notice applies.
- Section 257 HMOs consisting solely of two flats with no commercial premises above or below are exempt.
- Section 257 HMOs with no shared internal or external common parts and no more than two storeys are exempt.
- Buildings controlled or managed by public sector bodies, registered providers of social housing, police, fire or health service bodies are exempt.
- Buildings occupied solely or principally by full-time students are exempt where managed or controlled by the educational establishment.
- Buildings occupied by owners, their households and no more than the permitted number of other persons are exempt.
- Buildings occupied only by two persons who form two households are exempt.
